Getting Around

Street

Cairo has a rather nice international airport and getting around the city is quite easy with many options available (see Wikipedia - Transport in Cairo): Tuktuks, taxis, Uber, bus, rail rapid transport (see Cairo Metro), tram, ferry, train and even a monorail currently under construction. Road travel can be very confusing so using a local is certainly highly recommended.

Things to See

As with any big city there is a lot to see but Cairo has it's pick of a host of wonderful attractions including the historic The Egyptian Museum in Cairo and, of course, the Giza Plateau in the heart of the city where you can see the pyramids and sphinx.

Accomodation

Novotel Cairo 6th of October

There are hotels everywhere in Cairo with the big hotel chains all represented and catering to all budgets. If you are not bothered about being in the city itself you can save money by booking hotels further out but be aware of your transport options.

Shopping

Other than the traditional “Khan el-Khalili” souk in the centre of the city many city inhabitants visit the main shopping centres in the city:

  • Mall of Arabia (6th of October City) - This is the biggest mall in Egypt and has numerous places to eat (see the large food court and central outdoor atrium) and shop including an IKEA.
  • Mall of Egypt (Giza) - First major shopping centre in the city.
