Aswan Dam

Aswan High Dam

The Aswan Dam or, more accurately, the Aswan High Dam as opposed to the older, lower, dam built by the British is located at Aswan in southern Egypt.

Lake Nassar

This large embankment dam was built by the Soviets between 1960 and 1970 to stop annual flooding of the Nile and has created Lake Nassar (to the south) which flooded numerous gold mines and historic sites (see Temples of Abu Simbel and Philea Temple Complex).
