Maidstone
The modern town of Maidstone is the largest town in Kent, located directly south of Rochester, just off of the M20 motorway. The town is located on the east and west side of the Medway river with the largely pedestrianised town centre to the East.
The town centre is also home to the Fremlin Walk Shopping Centre, the largest in the area.
The river is a good way to escape the hustle and bustle of the town with walks along the shore as well as boat trips on offer. It is along the banks you will also find the historic centre of Maidstone at the Archbishop's Palace and The Tyrwhitt-Drake Museum of Carriages.
Travel
Medway is located to the south of the M20 on the A229 with a number of small pay and display car parks (and a multi-story at the Fremlin Walk shopping centre). The two main train stations are Maidstone East (on the north end of the town centre) and Maidstone West (to the south west of the town centre, a short walk across the river).
