Sedbergh
England's “Booktown” (definitely not to be confused with Hay-on-Wye, Wales' “Booktown”), the small town of Sedbergh is just west of the North Yorkshire border. Many use Sedbergh as a base for walking in the local countryside but others visit for the book shops…though there are only a few, the largest being Westwood Books (Long Lane), on the west side of the town which sells an assortment of used and new books over two big floors.
There is also “Clutterbooks” on the high street (77 Main Street), which is quite tiny but has a number of seriously discounted books for sale (do not miss the back room).
There is a public car park (with public toilets) beside the tourist information shop which includes a book shop containing books from different independent vendors.
