Introduction
Merthyr Tydfil county borough is a small borough in the south of Wales located to the south of Powys, between Rhondda Cynon Taf to the west and Caerphilly to the east.

Merthyr Tydfil
Merthyr Tydfil is the seat of the county borough on the Rive Taff in the middle of the county. The town centre is a concrete jungle with Merthyr Tydfil College on the west side of the river and the commercial centre on the east (with the bus station very close to the water). The town centre is a depressing sequence of low-rent businesses with a lot of empty spaces.
Just to the north of the town centre is the rather nice Cyfarthfa Park with the stately-home-style “Cyfarthfa Castle Museum and Art Gallery” at the top of a hill (limited free parking) in an impressive expanse of parkland leading down to a large pond.
