Taunton

Taunton - Parade

The sleepy town of Taunton is located on the south-west side of Somerset on the River Tone. The town centre is a bit of a lost cause as far as shopping and restaurants is concerned with not much beyond the normal big-name high street chains such as Nando's, Boots, Costa, etc.

Attractions

Despite the dire town centre there a few things worth having a look at, generally the remaining bits of history in the town.

St Mary Magdalene's Church

St Mary Magdalene's Church is a 15th century Anglican church notable for being beside the central “Canon Street” car park.

Castle

The castle is now a hotel (see https://www.the-castle-hotel.com/ for details), just off of North Street and beside the modern Museum of Somerset.

River Walk

There is a path along the river which is well worth taking in with views of the old bridge.

Travel

There is a mainline train station NRLOGO Taunton located a short walk to the north of the town centre, otherwise the town is served by several pay and display car parks (“Canon Street” being the most central). The town centre is easily walkable.
