Review of 'The Granary'
A busy place you might expect serves good food…you would be partly right. The menu board on the wall changes at least partly every day with a good selection of vegetarian dishes. The restaurant itself spills out onto the pavement and into rooms to the side and above as well. You queue for food at the tills on the main floor (strategically placed so that you wait beside the deserts…). We had the lamb burgers (my companion having the “feta” version and I had the more traditional, supposedly, with mint mayo) which we about £9 each (they were the special of the day). Having queued for about 20 minutes we waited another 15 minutes (on, admittedly, a Saturday) for the dishes to be delivered to the table.
While waiting I had my “creamy shake” which turned out to be a bit of flavouring in milk - It was not nice. I would have expected it to have ice cream in it and at £3 it was a bit disappointment.
Our burgers arrived with a wonderful side salad, coleslaw and a side of baby potatoes. The somewhat small burgers were served on a fresh sour-dough bun which was delicious. My burger came without the promised mayo making for quite a dry burger (I was not about to wait another 15 minutes for the mayo). My companion's feta was much larger than the burger itself and she commended it highly to me.
Our millionaire shortbread dessert has to be the best we have had in some time - Wonderful shortbread and tasty topping that was not just sweet - You could taste the caramel and chocolate.
Service here is pretty much non existent and always running around looking stressed - Not necessarily a great place for a quiet lunch. Though, perhaps if there is no one around…Saturday can be busy!
If you are looking for something different from fast food in the area, it is not a bad choice. Do not expect great though despite appearances.
