Review of 'The Boathouse Restaurant'

Located on the pier right on the St Peter Port harbour, it is hard to miss the Boathouse Restaurant with it's tables out front, small dining room and balcony overlooking the water at the back. It is not fancy dining but very tasty.

Obviously the menu here is dominated by seafood so this is what we decided on. I had the bouillabaisse (£14.95) which was very tasty indeed and jammed full of prawns, mussels, and clams along with a few pieces of cod and a nice piece of lobster on top. The soup base was absolutely amazing - Creamy and rich…the only complaint would be that there was more of the soup. Delicious.

My companion had the fish pie (£12.95) which was a bit disappointing with too much mashed potatoes but once she dug around she managed to find some big pieces of fish (cod and salmon). The light salad on the side was a perfect accompaniment.

We were convinced to try the “Oreo Biscuit and Peanut Butter Chocolate Brownie” (£5.50) which was served hot with vanilla ice cream. This was very good indeed - very chocolaty, but it could have done, in our opinions, with more peanut butter (we only found a very small amount). Thankfully the sickly sweet white Oreo filling was missing…

The service was not great and we often had to wait quite some time to see someone…ok, we were seated at one of the tables in front (it was cold and they had plastic covering it with heaters…still drafty).

If you are looking for a good meal with some local produce, you could do far worse than the Boathouse.
