Review of 'Zootropolis 2'

After the events of Zootropolis Judy Hops (voiced by Ginnifer Goodwin) and Nick Wilde (voiced by Jason Bateman) are now partners at the Zootopia Police Department (ZPD) but their conflicting personalities mean they find it difficult to work together - Judy being very keen and Nick a bit more relaxed about things. When Judy finds the skin of a snake - A creature that has not been seen in Zootropolis for years - She uncovers a plot to steal an old journal that documents Zootopias climate zones. The two infiltrate a Gala featuring the journal being hosted by the Lynxley family and find viper Gary De'Snake (voiced by Ke Huy Quan) attempting to steal it. When they are discovered the viper unintentionally bites ZPD Chief Bogo (voiced by Idris Elba) the Lynxley family frame Judy and Nick for the theft. Escaping the police the two enlist the help of conspiracy theorist beaver Nibbles Maplestick (voiced by Fortune Feimster) who leads them to Marsh Market, a hiding place for reptiles. As they travel through the far ends of Zootropolis, they soon uncover a conspiracy that has resulted in the city's reptiles going underground, shunned from the society they helped build…and it is up to them to save the city from disaster once again.

Another fun, exciting story set in the animal city of Zootroplis. The action is considerably ramped up from the first instalment but, thankfully, the characters are still a lot of fun. For older viewers there are plenty of “inside jokes” throughout the film that will also entertain along with sparkling, witty dialogue that will also amuse. This story is considerably darker than the first film with a rather nasty secret underpinning Zootroplis' society that will be very familiar to viewers. The animation seems to be better than the first with a much smoother and kinetic feel to the action that really keeps the screen moving. The story is slightly more complicated and requires a bit of attention to keep up with it but at the end, it is a “good vs. evil” story with a couple of, perhaps obvious, twists along the way…It is a much more serious story than the first and a bit lighter on the humour as there is a lot to tell, leaving the comedy delivered in rapid-fire dialogue or in background scenes so worth watching out for.

Full of action and lots of fun that will appeal primarily to younger viewers but older viewers should still find amusing. The film never seems to really drag despite being close to 2 hours long.
