Christchurch
Christchurch is a small town on the south-eastern tip of Dorset, just to the east of Bournemouth, and south of the New Forest in Hampshire.
Though busy it has a laid back feel though most of the time there is a lot of traffic on the high street making it tricky to walk around.
Market day is on Monday and is held on the high street though would have traditionally limited to “Saxon Square” which today still has the old market arch.
There is a walk along the River Avon that takes you along the ruins of the castle and behind the priory to the Town Quay.
There are a number of car parks surrounding the high street (follow the signs) and there is also the Christchurch which is on the northern end of the high street.
Town Quay
The town quay has boat trips in the surrounding areas as well as a large park area with lots of birds to feed. There are a few pubs here as well as an ancient mill.
Christchurch Castle
The Christchurch Castle and Norman House is free to visit and operated by English Heritage. The long walk up to the keep provides reasonable views of the town centre though not much further.
Christchurch Priory
The Chirstchurch Priory is still a very active part of the community. Open to visitors, there are several wonderful gardens surrounding the building.
