Review of 'Giraffe'

This is a chain that we visited in the new Westfield Stratford shopping centre in east London. It is located on the 2nd floor of the middle atrium. When we visited it was quite busy (about 2 weeks since the mall had opened and EVERY restaurant was busy). There are locations, of course, scattered across the city.

The menu is quite varied with fast-food from around the world from burgers to stir-fries. We were lucky enough to be there when breakfast was still being served so I had the Huevos Racheros (with fried egg) - £7.95 - Which was quite good if a bit small (and no sour cream!). I had a side order of “Poppy Seed Celery Slaw” - £2.25 - Which was very tasty indeed with not a lot of mayo and the poppy seeds adding an interesting dimension (I will not mention that there appeared to be a distinct lack of “celery”…). My companion had the “Avec Cheese” (rare breed grass fed beef burger with chips) - £10.25 - which was very flavoursome and juicy. The chips were a bit undercooked but quite crunchy.

The prices seemed a bit steep but the emphasis here is on quality of ingredients, it seemed. Presentation for everything was very good though the staff were a bit rushed around. The restaurant itself is noisy and a bit crowded (tables close together) but quite funky.

Good if you are interested in a bit of fast food, done well, with a trendy atmosphere.
