Review of 'hummus bros (NOW CLOSED)'

Ever since this small shop opened a few years ago I have wanted to visit but it never seemed to be open. Finally, the other day I had a chance when passing by to visit Busaba Eathai (with it's queue around the corner). According to the staff we were lucky there was no queue on this Saturday as well.

Myself and my companion were able to walk in and sit at one of the bench-style sitting in the small restaurant (the original branch on Wardour Street, there is another branch in Holbourn). The simple, spartan, surroundings and very simple menu are very much suited to a quick lunch. While the name of the restaurant suggests vegetarian the titular dish (for those of you unfamiliar, “Hummus” is a sauce made of mashed chickpeas and spices) it is on offer with various different accompaniments, for example, beef, chicken and lamb. Generally there are two sizes of bowl with hummus served lining the bowl and a filling in the middle. There are also traditional side dishes of Greek salad, tabbouleh and the like on offer. The offering of a large number of non-alcoholic drinks is also very refreshing (fruit juices particularly) and welcome for someone who does not drink…Our refreshing meal was finished with the “malabi” dessert (sort of a custard with a sweet sauce) and complementary, tasty, mint tea.

The prices are very reasonable but it should be noted that they increase if you want to eat in and if you are eating in the evening. A good, quick meal right in the heart of Soho! Refreshingly light and tasty. Definitely not somewhere for fine dining…
