Review of 'Itsu'

A very modern interior was a promising sign to my visit for lunch. The dimly lit space had a number of seats around a couple of sushi conveyor belts winding their way around. Each of the dishes was labelled quite clearly on the base with, as expected, different colour labels indicating their cost (even soup was found travelling thus). The miso soup is interesting in that it contained a number of fresh herbs (unusual for miso) but quite tasty. The tea was quite good but tremendously overpriced at about 2 pounds a cup! Nice, but not that nice. Actually, price definitely did continue to play it's roll in my visit and overshadowing the experience for me. There were a number of very good, innovative, dishes such as the “crystal rolls” (I tried the crab) which were a bit of a twist on a normal sushi roll. The gyoza (spicy dumplings) were NOT spicy and quite soggy and tasteless. I was not altogether happy. The service was adequate but, again, nothing to write home about.
