Review of 'Satori Robata'

A bit off the beaten track for the wonderful restaurants in the Knightsbridge area, Satori is a small conveyor belt Japanese restaurant located next to Hyde Park. It's crowded upstairs seating around the conveyor belt is quite noisy with the fan of the grill extractor (the grill being one of the main attractions here) but the basement, if opened, would be preferred with it's floor seating with a bit more of an “authentic” feel to it (during our visit this section was closed with my companion stumbling around in the dark looking for the unmarked toilets). On offer is typical Japanese sushi-bar fare with prices being what you might expect (that is, not cheap).

Items on the conveyor are, as is typical, placed on coloured plates which indicate their cost (from about £3 to £6 each) though there are items on the menu that can be ordered such as various Teriyaki, Katsu, noodles, soup and grilled dishes. It is the later that attracted me to the location as they have a number of grilled items on offer including various pieces of meat and vegetable. These are served in VERY small portions but are marinaded in a wonderful sauce - Very expensive too with our paying £3.50 for a single grilled asparagus. Tasty though. The miso soup, always a good indicator of quality, was bland and tasted of nothing more than something that had come out of a packet (and, to boot, was not bottomless!).

Without drinks and with a modest tip we paid about £37 – Though as it was so expensive we did not really eat that much. The service was adequate. We were surprised that on our bill we were told we were able to have a free grill item next time we visited. It is unlikely we will ever use it with far more reasonable and comfortable options available with the likes of Yo Sushi! here.
