Review of 'Tortilla Mexican Grill'

With four locations in London Tortilla serves up quick, fresh Mexican food to numerous punters. It is a fast food restaurant where you order at the counter at which they also prepare your meal according to your specifications (beans, sour cream, etc.). Seating is communal which can get a bit cozy when busy. Soft drinks (£1.40) are bottomless but alcohol is also available.

We visited on a busy Friday night choosing to have the Burrito (mine a flavourful “braised pork” and my companion's a rather disappointing chicken). I decided to go for the extra spicy salsa which was satisfyingly hot but certainly edible. To our eyes, there was not a lot of difference in size between my large (£5.70) and my dinner date's medium (£4.70) but we did not quibble as both were quite tasty indeed. We chose to have a (shared) large-sized side order of tortilla chips (£1.00) and guacamole (£2.50) which turned out to be a big mistake as between us we could not even finish half (though we did manage to polish off the rather flavourful guacamole).

The food was satisfying a filling and the service was prompt and quite cheerful. The ambiance is what you might expect for this type of restaurant – utilitarian. But, all in all, a pleasant experience.
