Review of 'Thai Express'
Have walked by this place many times on my way to the tube station to go home. It is a small, thin restaurant (though bigger than you might think with a basement seating area) that was busy during the lunch hour we visited. The starter of prawn crackers was fantastic - The dark prawn crackers (and not served with any dipping sauce) which we devoured in minutes.
They have very good lunch specials - I had a Massaman Prawn Curry served with rice, served with satay chicken which cost about £10. All of it was very tasty and the massaman curry sauce was fantastic. The satay was wonderful - surprisingly hot (temperature!) considering how busy the staff appeared to be. My lunch companion had the Pad Thai (about £7) which was done very well - Not overly sweet and certainly not oily. It was served with peanuts and a slice of lemon (rather than the expected lime) on the side.
The both of us ate and had tea as well for about £22 which is a great bargain for a proper sit-down lunch in this area - and great quality to boot. Considering for the same money you could end up with a lack-luster meal at Misato up the street, this was a great and pleasant surprise. It was very busy but we were served quickly and were in and out within about 45 minutes. The staff were friendly and helpful - Pointing out that by ordering slightly differently we could save ourselves some money! Likely to be VERY busy during lunchtime on weekdays so get here early.
Certainly recommended and I think we will be back…
