Review of 'Wallace & Gromit: Vengeance Most Fowl'
Wallace (voiced by Ben Whitehead, taking over the role folowing the death of Peter Sallis in 2017) continues his inventive ways with the creation of “Norbot” (voiced by Reece Shearsmith) a robotic garden gnome that he uses as a basis for a new business venture cleaning up gardens. Feathers McGraw, the cunning penguin that Wallace helped apprehend in “The Wrong Trousers” for having attempted to steal the Blue Diamond, is serving time at the local zoo where he learns of Wallace's gnomes which he changes from their default setting to “evil”. The gnomes start to steal objects and be generally destructive so the police arrest Wallace so it is up to Wallace's ever faithful friend Gromit to save the day…
Another charming Aardman animation that manages to deliver a heap of action as well as a lot of good-natured humour and fun. The wildly inventive inventions and in-jokes (many fairly adult in nature) are part of the fun with many of the later quite English so may lose some viewers. The animation itself is so detailed and rich that only multiple watchings can really take it in. The story is sufficiently silly, bringing back the creepy Feathers McGraw (one in-joke being that no one recognizes him without his red rubber glove hat on) as the hyper-intelligent thief intent on finally stealing the Blue Diamond from the city museum. It is obviously up to the ever patient Gromit to save the day despite the “help” of Wallace and the police.
This is not a huge intellectual film but it looks great and is a lot of fun, a wonderful addition to the Wallace & Gromit set of films. Great for kids of all ages.
