Review of 'The Martians'
The Martians by Kim Stanley Robinson
This is a series of short stories and poems in the world of Robinson's “Martian Trilogy” (Red Mars, Green Mars and Blue Mars). It has been some time since I have read the trilogy but found this book easy to read with a lot of small stories that do not add a great deal to the original trilogy (or to anything else). The “Green Mars” story is the longest in the book and tells the story of climbing Olympus Mons – perhaps the most enthralling of all the stories in the book. The poetry is readable but Robinson is definitely shown to be a story writer… A quick light read, this book will probably interest those readers of the trilogy otherwise the stories do not really stand alone.
