[Dakar's Big Buildings and Busy Streets]

Introduction

Dakar is the capital of Senegal and home to a massive population. It is a chaotic jumble of a city and yet with a vibrancy all of it's own with french cafes and restaurants scattered everywhere intersperced with Chawarma (Lebanese) and other ethnic restaurants. Here everyone lives in harmony with one another.

Île de Gorée, Senegal

Introduction

Île de Gorée is a small island just off the coast of Dakar, Senegal though could easily be 2,000 miles away. Very reminiscent of a Mediterranean island, Gorée is a tranquil oasis after the hustle of Dakar and only a 15 minute ferry ride away.

Introduction

[Senegal]

Introduction

Senegal is a large country on the west coast of Africa just south of the Sahara desert. It is a very dry country yet with a wealth of culture and places to explore.

Senegal is effectively divided into two parts with the vast proportion of the territory to the north of The Gambia and the Casamance area to the south of The Gambia. It should be noted that the Casamance area has in recent years been the site of a rebel uprising against the Senegale…

Lac Rose, Senegal

Lac Rose is a short distance out of Dakar, Senegal and is a small, in-land salt water lake whose concentrations of minerals make the water turn pink. The salt accumulates at the bottom of the lake in crystals which are harvested by people who wade in the shallow waters to fill their small boats.

St Louis, Senegal

Located on the Senegal coast just south of Mauritania (and the Sahara desert) St. Louis is home of the world-famous St. Louis Jazz Festival. It's colonial past has brought a distinct air of the mediterranean to the town with it's colourful architecture and fairly laid-back attitude. That is, of course, until the festival when the town welcomes people from across Africa and the world.
