Review of 'Chilango'

Very good Mexican food from yet another burrito establishment - A growing trend in this area with the lunch crowd. There is a choice of burritos on offer with various fillings. The black beans are quite good as is the (extra priced) guacamole. The pinto beans as a topping, I can recommend as the black beans are a bit bland. My favourite, hibiscus juice, is expensive but is bottomless. The Mexican hot sauce on each table is wonderful

Review of 'Kimchee'

I have been walking by this place and have wanted to try it since it opened a few months ago (with long queues to get in). Having had the opportunity to visit it I jumped at the chance.

Kimchee is on the main floor of an office building. The restaruant is quite modern looking with black used throughout. As you enter there is a small, very pleasant, rock garden with water feature on your right with the kitchen immediately behind (with the grill at the front). The tabl…

Review of 'Pu's Brasserie'

I walk by this small restaurant every day and have heard that near Holborn there was a good Thai restaurant so I wanted to visit. It was disappointing. When we arrived the restaurant had just opened for dinner though there were no other customers until just before we left. The small interior is quite basic with only a few flowers to add colour. On the plus side, the staff were very pleasant if a bit hard to hear on occasion.

Review of 'Brasserie Blanc'

It is my wife's birthday so it was her choice for dinner - She chose Brasserie Blanc on Chancery Lane which we pass every day on the way home to catch the tube. Brasserie Blanc was formerly Chez Gerard but has been bought out by the famous chef Raymond Blanc. The idea behind Brasserie Blanc, as it says in the menus, is to provide simple home-based French cooking like his mother used to make. In this regard he has certainly done it.

Have walked by this place many times on my way to the tube station to go home. It is a small, thin restaurant (though bigger than you might think with a basement seating area) that was busy during the lunch hour we visited. The starter of prawn crackers was fantastic - The dark prawn crackers (and not served with any dipping sauce) which we devoured in minutes.

It is interesting to find such a throw-back to the older-style of Chinese restaurant in the heart of London. I am not making any apologies to it, indeed, the food tastes quite good and with the massive portions the prices do not seem as expensive as would first glance suggest.

Opened recently to a considerable amount of hype this small restaurant in the heart of Holborn is, evidently, the first yakiniku-style restaurant in London - Very similar to Korean BBQ where you cook your raw food on a grill in the middle of the table.

I am not entirely sure where I heard about Burger & Shake but if I remember I will be thanking them wholeheartedly - Absolutely delicious.

We visited Burger & Shake on a Friday night after a local event nearby at about 9:30. It is a bit tricky to find on the side street just up from Russell Square tube station but worth the search. A small restaurant with seating for perhaps 40 at a push with a few tables on the left and booths to the right. The furnishings ar…
