An epic tale following the story of Easy Company, 506th Regiment of the 101st Airborne Division (US Army) throughout the second world war. The stories and characters throughout the series are engaging with the effects truly incredible (though really only obvious in the first few episodes). The colours are intentionally muted which definitely lends an air of realism to the whole series. The camera work in places made me feel a bit dizzy (parti…

1st film in the 'Pirates of the Caribbean' series

A fun-filled two hours of good old-fashioned pirate adventure. The effects are very good with not too bad a story (with a couple of complications and twists). Johnny Depp is wonderful as Captain Jack Sparrow (who never seems to be able to stand still) yet the supporting cast of Keira Knightley and Orlando Bloom (also seen in the Lord of the Rings trilogy) add the right amount…

This is the original Jackie Chan/Chris Tucker Rush Hour and, it seems to me, much superior than the recent sequel. First, let me say that I have NOT read the original story so I cannot comment on how close the movie comes or does not come to the original story (judging by Hollywood's past history I would strongly think the later).

Beowulf tells the story of a kingdom terrorised by a monster (Grendal) living in a nearby mountain with his (rather seductive) mother (also a monster

US Marshall Teddy Daniels (Leonardo DiCaprio) accompanied by fellow Marshall Chuck Aule (Mark Ruffalo, familiar to Marvel film fans as Bruce Banner) visits “Shutter Island” which houses Ashecliffe Hospital, a facility for the criminally insane, to investigate the mysterious disappearance of one of their inmates. Met by the somewhat reticent Dr. Cawley (Ben Kingsley) the two receive a somewhat frosty reception as they look into the case. Dr. Cawley believes that e…

The Current War documents the commercial rivalry between the flamboyant Thomas Edison (Benedict Cumberbatch sporting an American accent) and pragmatic George Westinghouse (Michael Shannon) in bringing electricity to the United States in the 1890s. Edison's reputation as an inventor and charismatic character leads him to being universally adored but his proposal to use the expensive and technically limited direct current to power the country falls to the wayside a…

7th film in the 'Mission: Impossible' series

The latest blockbusting Mission Impossible film comes to the big screen in loud, trademark fashion. It is painfully obvious that these films have in recent years simply become an excuse for ever more impressive stunts performed by it's star, Tom Cruise (as Ethan Hunt). We are well beyond the original film's labyrinthian plot, slow pace, and insidiously complex plot twists with the focus in…
