Las Vegas, Nevada

Ok, this is the ultimate in crass consumerism and tack but there ARE a few redeeming things about Las Vegas. If you are willing to put aside any scruples you may have about gambling and “girlie” shows then you will get along well. In recent years the development of this city has justified the title of the “fastest growing city in the US”.

There are LOTS of things to see and do here, from free circus shows at Circus Circus, of course the pirate show outside Treasure Island and the volcano that erupts every hour outside of Mirage. Never mind the shopping arcade in Ceasar's Palace.

Eating Out

Eating is a great thing here as well with many hotels offering very reasonably priced (cheap) buffets to entice you in. There are also a number of good restaurants away from the hotels that also deserve a visit.

My favourite has to be the legendary Battista's Hole in the Wall – A very warm, inviting place with excellent food. It is just like you are one of the family! Fantastic. Why eat at another chain or in a casino when you can have the REAL thing?

Outside Las Vegas

Just a short trip outside of the city, there are a few very interesting places to visit.

Death Valley

Just a short drive north west of the city.

Grand Canyon

Either a short plane trip or a day's drive from the city.

Hoover Dam

A short drive east of the city, Hoover Dam is truly impressive with guided tours on offer through the recently re-furbished tourist facilities. They take you not only through the dam but down to the base to look up – wow!
