Review of 'Mamma Ristorante'

Just a bit out of the centre of Richmond (north-east on Kew Road), this small local Italian restaurant is quite pleasant though a bit…ordinary…and a bit expensive too.

The “Bresaola con rucola” (cured beef with rocket and parmesan flakes) to start was quite good, if a bit heavy on the rocket. For my main dish I tried the Fettuccine Alfredo which was, a bit oddly, made with mushrooms which was not too bad though, mistakenly, I asked for parmesan which, piled on, largely obscured the extremely subtle flavour. My dinner companion tried the calzone but was disappointed that it was largely crust and mozzarella with little flavour to be had throughout. Our dessert of chocolate pie was the best of the meal – Dark and very rich.

The service was quite friendly in the fairly modern interior (the toilets, always a good indication of cleanliness, very very clean and modern as well).

All in all, an underwhelming experience.
