Review of 'Pizza Street'

27973461_10159941866490006_7958114765246249226_n.jpg We do love pizza and were happy to see Pizza Street open close to where we live serving up New York-style pizza at a decent price. It is certainly not fancy with a small, basic interior with tables having a glass shelf above where you can place your drinks or sides with the pizza dominating the table. As might be expected Pizza Street does a roaring trade with takeaway and delivery with drivers coming and going throughout our visit.

Located on Turnham Green Terrace in Chiswick very close to Turnham Green Station (on the opposite side of the road beside Chiswick Common) with it's black exterior Pizza Street is hard to miss. There is seating for 30 or so people inside with the preparation area dominated by a large clay pizza oven (as it should be). The menu is simple with pizza sold by the slice (£3.75), or in regular (£7), large (£10) or extra large (£15) sizes with a list of 12 types of pizza types with the usual suspects. They do also offer salads, sides (garlic bread, etc) and dips as well as a few deserts (ice cream and a “nutella pizza”). In keeping with the New York theme they also have shakes (£5) and an assortment of american soft drinks and beers.

Interior

Yeah, it was Valentine's day but we were not in the mood for any fancy restaurant and racked up prices so we found a table and sat down for a pizza. We ordered a “half and half” extra large (£2 extra and only on the extra large) with one half “The Meatball” (lamb meatballs, onions, cherry tomatoes, parsley and chilli flakes) and the other “The Aloha” (smoked ham and pineapple - yeah, a “Hawaiian”). We were complemented by the staff on our choice of “The Meatball” which is quite unusual for pizza and, it seems, the cashier's particular favourite.

The massive pizza was brought to our table (it was explained that the paper plates and plastic cutlery was self-service but they brought them to us anyway…) and it was a sight to behold. It is thin, as a New York style should be with a wonderful chewy crust that is lightly blackened from the heat of the oven. The sauce was a bit bland but the highlight were the lamb meatballs - full of flavour and generously sprinkled on top. I could barely get much flavour from the Hawaiian side except for the large hunks of pineapple. The extra large pizza was more than enough for the two of us and we only managed to finish by sticking around for more than an hour…

The small interior did get quite noisy when crowded but this is to be expected. With a basic fast-food restaurant style interior it is not a romantic dinner hot spot, that is for sure. However, at £23 for the two of us it is a bargain (even for pizza).

Quite tasty and we will definitely be back when the next New York pizza craving hits and we are in the area but certainly not spectacular.
