Review of 'The Dark Knight Rises'

dark_knight_rises.jpg The final in the Nolan Batman series sees Batman (played by Christian Bale) very much retired when the city falls to the ruthless “Bane” (played by Tom Hardy) who seems intent on destroying the city with a nuclear weapon. Circumstances mean that many of Batman's own weapons are used against him so he is forced to dig deep to save the city having been made bankrupt - Even Alfred leaves him as the consequences of the previous movie come home to roost.

Ok, if you don't want to know anything about the ending, don't read the rest of this paragraph but skip to the next. I have to ask the question: Why do American movies all tend to want to end on a happy note? Did Alfred really need to see Wayne in the cafe? Why not leave it open ended for the future…? (sigh) Anyway, now that I have this out of my system…Interesting nod to Robin in the end as well…

An amazing movie that takes a while to get up to speed with a lot of dialogue along the way - unfortunately, much of it spoken by Bane through a voice distorting facial mask. When the action sequences come though, they are unbelievable, as you might expect. The destruction of Gotham is amazing as are the gadgets - The batmobile flies here!

Enjoyable, fun summer action…if a bit overlong and overwordy. Certainly the most involved and intricate of all of the movies but not with the subtlety of other films.
