Review of 'Animal Dreams'

Animal Dreams by Barbara Kingsolver

Codi Noline is experiencing a bit of a life-crisis as she returns to where she was born. Her sister has just gone to “save the world” in Nicaragua and her father is slowly losing his mind due to Alzheimer's. As she returns to the place of her birth she discovers the secret to why the trees seem to be dying, takes a job requiring talents she never knew she had and learns a lot about herself and her family. A journey of discovery told in a sensitive way this novel is an insight into what it actually means to “live” (not merely to breath but to actually “live”). Codi discovers herself and a goal for her life. As with other Kingsolver novels, this one is well written and quite moving if not a bit disjointed and lagging in parts. Definitely worth the read.
