Review of 'The Blind Assassin'

The Blind Assassin by Margaret Atwood

A fantastic story following the tragic life of a wealthy woman, Iris, whose sister, Laura, commits suicide. Through a tragic childhood in southern Ontario (Canada) then a disastrous marriage she eventually finds herself. The story is interspersed with interludes from the Science Fiction story “The Blind Assassin” that a woman and her lover are writing. The story reflects on what is happening in Iris' life. This story is as much about Iris as it is about her sister. Very well written, if a bit tedious in places, the characters are really brought to life. No wonder this has won the Booker Prize. Atwood certainly seems to be getting better with time. Definitely one to read…
