Review of 'The Catcher in the Rye'

The Catcher in the Rye by J. D. Salinger

A fascinating tale of a young boy who has just been expelled from school as he attempts to find himself as he wanders about in New York. Holden is a very sympathetic character and is far nicer than he thinks he is and far more a “conformist” than he cares to admit. It is amusing to see him contacting friends from the past one by one and alienating them with his self-absorbed rantings and odd behaviour. Salinger is truly impressive with this morality play of classic modern literature.
